Anthony Joshua Discharged from Hospital in Nigeria Following Deadly Road Accident
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, officials in Lagos announced on late Wednesday. The athlete was caught in a vehicular crash in the Lagos area on Monday, a devastating event that claimed the lives of two of his team members.
Under Observation for Minor Injuries
Joshua had been under observation while recovering from minor injuries, his promoter stated earlier on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on X that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.
“Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two departed friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” the commissioner stated.
Remembering the Victims
The victims of the crash were named as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. The official further stated that the champion was filled with sorrow and full of emotions over the tragic loss of his two dear friends.”
The news of his discharge follows the boxing community shared sympathy for the champion in the wake of the heartbreaking incident.
