A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays
The winter break present a multitude of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the latest news: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and using meditation skills to refrain from yelling at family members. Hopefully you managed to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling developments surfaced during the festive period, and should you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising announcement, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they must be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two
Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
